Louisiana Player Wins $1 Million in Powerball NASCAR Promotion
Louisiana’s Meagan Lewis became a millionaire on Sunday night after winning the Powerball NASCAR Playoff, bringing an end to a promotion that captivated players in 27 participating states.
She was declared the winner after a special drawing that took place at Phoenix Raceway ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race. The three beaten finalists each received $10,000.
What is the NASCAR Powerball Playoff?
The NASCAR Powerball Playoff is a promotion jointly run by Powerball and NASCAR. Lottery players in participating jurisdictions must first enter competitions at state level - such as second-chance drawings - for the chance to win prizes and stay in contention for the seven-figure jackpot that is up for grabs at the end.
After the state draws had finished, 16 semi-finalists were left from across the country. These players were then paired against each other for a series of head-to-head draws. These happened alongside some of the biggest races throughout the NASCAR season. Eliminated competitors received prize payouts that went up in value as the promotion continued.
The final four players were then invited for a VIP trip to Phoenix, Arizona, for Championship Weekend. The three-night break included hotel accommodation and a range of great experiences around the climax of the NASCAR season.
It was the second edition of the NASCAR Powerball Playoff, after Stephanie Walker from West Point in Mississippi won in 2023.
‘Thrilling From Start to Finish’
New Orleans resident Lewis was randomly selected as this year’s winner ahead of Anthony Lawrence from Magnolia in Delaware, Beverly Lipford from Goldsboro in North Carolina, and Michael Wells from Columbia in South Carolina.
Lewis was stunned to emerge as the $1 million winner, saying: “I have no words. I got 42 text messages by the time I got off the stage.”
Lewis, a casting director, had spent just $5 on the initial Powerball ticket that set her off on the journey to becoming a millionaire. The ticket had not won a prize but she entered it into a Louisiana Second Chance draw and never looked back. She is now looking forward to taking her family on a cruise to Alaska, although she plans to save most of her winnings.
“This weekend has been thrilling from start to finish,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO. “As the official lottery game of NASCAR, this was our second year of adding to the anticipation and excitement of NASCAR Championship Weekend, while offering players the chance to win this premier experience and $1 million prize.”
“Powerball will be back next year for a third installment of the NASCAR Powerball Playoff. Stay tuned to your state lottery for 2025 entry dates!”
Powerball gives you three chances a week to become a multimillionaire, with drawings every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Keep up to date with the latest numbers after every draw.
