$435.3 Million Powerball Jackpot Claimed Anonymously by Purdue Grad
A Purdue University graduate from the Greater Lafayette area of Indiana has come forward with his winning Powerball ticket for the February 22nd drawing. The winner, who opted to remain private, purchased his ticket at a convenience store in Lafayette to win the jackpot worth an incredible $435.3 million by matching all five main numbers 10, 13, 28, 52, 61, and the Powerball 2.
The jackpot is the seventh largest prize ever to be won in Powerball history and increases the total number of jackpot winners from Indiana to 39.
The manufacturing worker picked up his prize anonymously, as Indiana law permits Hoosier Lottery players to claim jackpot awards though a legal trust or limited liability corporation.
A representative of the player reported “this is a dream come true for the winner” and mentioned what he planned to do with the winnings, including giving “some money to family members to pay for their education and maybe earn an advanced degree.”
The lucky ticket holder has decided to accept the one-off cash payment option, instead of the 30 annual instalments paid out over 29 years. The total lump sum after federal and states taxes will work out at around $189.1 million.
Indiana remains the luckiest state with 10.9% of all Powerball jackpot winners having bought their ticket in the state, but will its luck continue?
Wednesday night’s Powerball jackpot is now worth an estimated $123 million and tickets for draw are available to buy online or from an authorized retailer.
