Powerball Drawing Taken Off Air And Relocated Due To Hurricane

Hurricane Michael has caused devastation since making landfall on Wednesday afternoon, flooding beach towns, snapping trees and leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power. It is the third-strongest storm in recorded history to hit the US mainland.

The Florida Lottery posted an announcement on its website to say that drawings would be conducted in an alternate location to its Tallahassee headquarters until further notice. State games were switched to Orlando, while the decision was taken to relocate last night’s Powerball to the backup venue of Urbandale in Iowa.

The drawing was still held at its usual time of just before 11pm EST, and was overseen by security personnel and independent auditors. However, no live satellite feeds were available for players to watch the drawing.

What Were The Results?

The numbers drawn on Wednesday were 8, 23, 27, 42 and 60, with Powerball 7. The jackpot was worth $287.6 million, but no tickets matched the full winning line and the top prize will now roll over for the next drawing.

Over 1 million prizes were given away in total last night, including three players who matched five main numbers without the Powerball to win $1 million each. The jackpot for the next game will be $314 million, making it the largest prize since a player from New Jersey won $315 million on Saturday 19th May. There has been no announcement yet on where the draw will take place.
