$526 Million Powerball Ticket Sold in Anaheim, CA

California’s love affair with Powerball continued on Saturday night as another big jackpot was won in the Golden State - this time worth $526 million. The lucky ticket was sold in Anaheim.
Saturday’s game was the 30th since Abbas Shafii from Oregon had banked $328 million on January 18. The grand prize had gone past the half-a-billion-dollar mark and was estimated to be $515 million, but strong ticket sales pushed the final figure even higher by the time of the drawing.
The winning numbers were 7, 11, 21, 53 and 61, with a Powerball of 2. More than 928,000 prizes were paid out, including five of $1 million to players who matched all five main numbers without the Powerball. The winners in the second tier were from Georgia (2), Ohio, Oregon and Texas.
To find out more about the draw, go to the Payouts page for March 29. You can see how many winners there were in each category, with and without Powerball, and even choose your state to see a full breakdown for where you live.
More Joy For California
The jackpot winner now has one year to come forward and claim their prize. They purchased their ticket at the 7-Eleven at 763 North Euclid Street in Anaheim - the store will now receive the maximum retailer’s bonus of $1 million.
The cash value of the jackpot has been announced as $243.8 million, so the winner will have to decide whether to take the lump sum or the full amount as an annuity over the next 29 years.
It is the latest in a long line of huge wins to go to California. The Golden State has been the scene of the two biggest payouts in Powerball history - a $2.04 billion jackpot that went to Edwin Castro from Altadena in November 2022, and a $1.76 billion jackpot that was claimed by a group of winners represented by Theodorus Struyck in October 2023.
California has now had 16 jackpot winners, despite only joining the game in 2013. The most successful state historically has been Indiana with 39 wins, although the Hoosier State has been part of Powerball since it started in 1992 and the jackpot odds were very different back then.
If you want to try to become the next big winner, you’ll have to choose five numbers from 1 to 69, plus a Powerball between 1 and 26. Draws take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
