Ohio Player Wins $252 Million Powerball Jackpot

Ohio celebrated its fourth Powerball jackpot success on Wednesday night as a lucky player from the Buckeye State won $252 million.

The grand prize had not previously been won since March 4, and over the last 19 draws it quickly built up to more than a quarter of a billion dollars. The winning numbers for the draw on April 19 were 4, 11, 21, 38 and 64, with a Powerball of 11.

A single ticket matched all the numbers, and it was later announced that it was sold in Ohio, at Get Go #3279 in Macedonia. The retailer will receive $100,000 as a seller’s bonus.

It has also been revealed that the winning ticket was a Quick Pick. They will now have 180 days from the draw date to come forward and claim their prize.

There will also be a couple of key decisions for the winner to make when they receive the money. They have the option to remain anonymous if they do not wish to go public, while they must also choose whether to accept the $252 million as an annuity or take a lump sum of $134 million.

It is the second-largest Powerball prize to have been won in Ohio, following a $261 million payout in June 2010. That came just a couple of months after tickets went on sale in the state.

The biggest Powerball jackpot ever won has been $2.04 billion, which happened in November last year when a Californian player - later revealed to be Edwin Castro - matched all the numbers.

The jackpot now resets to $20 million, with draws continuing every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
