Which States Will Offer New Powerball Double Play Game?
A new Double Play feature will be launched in 13 states when a third weekly drawing is introduced to Powerball on August 23rd. Find out more about how the new add-on game will work and where it will be offered.
Powerball Changes on the Way
In one of the biggest shake-ups to Powerball ever seen, a new Monday drawing will take place every week from August 23rd. It is the first time the schedule has been altered since Powerball started in 1992.
Drawings will continue to be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but the addition of a third weekly draw is expected to drive up jackpots even more quickly.
Double Play will also give you more chances to win if it is available in your jurisdiction. It will initially be offered in Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Washington. More states may offer the game in future.
“America’s jackpot game is picking up the pace to keep up with player demand – going from two drawings a week to six, if you include Double Play,” said May Scheve Reardon, Powerball Product Group Chair and Missouri Lottery Executive Director. “Players have let us know they want to play for bigger jackpots and cash prizes, and we want Powerball to deliver on their expectations.”
$10 Million Jackpot
If the Double Play feature is available in your state to be added on to your ticket, you just need to select the option on your playslip and pay an extra $1 per play.
The numbers you play in the main Powerball drawing will also be entered into a separate Double Play drawing, which takes place shortly afterwards. Just like the main game, five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball from 1 to 26 will be selected at random.
You win prizes in Double Play in exactly the same way as the main Powerball game, by matching your numbers to the winning numbers. However, the payouts are different.
The jackpot is worth $10 million in every draw. It doesn’t roll over if nobody wins, and is shared if there are multiple players who match all the numbers. Many of the other prizes are bigger than the main game. For example, if you match the Powerball without any of the main numbers, you receive $7 in Double Play compared to $4 in the main game.
