Connecticut Lands Ninth Powerball Jackpot in Anniversary Week

The Connecticut Lottery has celebrated its 50th anniversary in style after a Powerball player from the Constitution State won $185 million in Monday’s drawing.

The lucky player matched the numbers 16, 25, 27, 49 and 55, plus the Powerball of 17, to become the second jackpot winner of 2022. Go to the Powerball Numbers page to see all the payouts from February 14 across the participating states.

It was later revealed that the winning ticket was sold in the town of Cheshire, at the One Stop located at 914 South Main Street. The cash value of the jackpot was $123.9 million, so the winner will have to decide whether to take the lump sum or annual payments over 29 years.

In Connecticut, there is no option for big winners to remain anonymous. State law requires the lottery to disclose their name and two of residence as it is considered public information.

Powerball in Connecticut

The Connecticut Lottery started selling tickets on February 15, 1972. It became the 20th state to offer Powerball when it joined the game in November 1995, three and a half years after the first draw.

Connecticut has gone on to create nine jackpot winners, and the one from Valentine’s Day ranks as the second-largest to have been seen in the state. The record win came back in November 2011, when the Putnam Avenue Family Trust claimed $254 million.

The most recent CT came almost 10 years ago. It was worth $60 million and went to Noel Peel from Seymour.

The latest winner is only the second player to ever win a Powerball jackpot on a Monday, following California’s Scott Godfrey last October. Monday drawings were introduced in August 2021 to give players three opportunities to take part every week.

Prior to Monday’s win, the jackpot had been growing since a $632 million jackpot was split between ticket holders from Wisconsin and California on January 5.

The grand prize will now start again from $20 million. You can take part in 45 states, plus three jurisdictions, and remember to check your numbers after every drawing.
