Wisconsin Couple Feel ‘Blessed’ To Win $316 Million Powerball Jackpot

A married couple from Oneida in Brown County have been revealed as the Wisconsin winners of the huge Powerball jackpot from January 5. Tammy and Cliff Webster have described it as a ‘dream come true’ after coming forward to claim their $316 million share.

The grand prize was worth $632 million after going three months without a winner, but was stopped from going any higher when two tickets matched all the numbers to split the money. The other entry was sold in California and has not yet been claimed.

Tammy and Cliff have decided to take the cash option of $225.1 million rather than the annuity. After federal and state taxes, the final payout is worth $153.9 million.

It is a sum of money that they regard as a blessing and will make a huge difference to their lives. “We are sincerely grateful for this incredible event,” said Tammy in a news release from the Wisconsin Lottery. “We always believed that we had a chance to win if we played and this is a dream come true.”

The Websters can now start to think about what they want to do with their newfound wealth. Cliff said: “This is a wonderful blessing, and we are incredibly thankful and most appreciative of this opportunity.”

Cliff and Tammy are members of the Oneida Nation. They are Native Americans - she is part Oneida and part Sioux, he is Oneida. Cliff said: “I told her dad I would always take care of her. This gives me that opportunity to do that … this helps a great deal.”

‘WINsconsin’

Wisconsin has now had 19 jackpot winners in Powerball, making it the fourth most successful state. Its good fortune has seen the state dubbed ‘WINsconsin’, and Lottery Director Cindy Polzin congratulated the Websters on their big payout.

"I could not be more thrilled for the Websters! It was very exciting to celebrate their win with them," she said. "It's incredible that we get to keep celebrating big wins in our state. This is the fourth major jackpot won in the past four years in WINsconsin."

The Websters bought their ticket at Jackson Pointe Citgo, 2710 Packerland Drive in Green Bay. The store will receive a $100,000 bonus for selling the ticket. General Manager Mary Williams said: “My heart is racing. I have goosebumps all over…It's just really great for our store, for our community here.”

The $632 million jackpot ranks as the seventh-biggest in Powerball history. The largest ever seen in Wisconsin was the $768 million paid out to Manuel Franco from Milwaukee in March 2019.
