81-year old Navy Veteran Wins a $150,000 Powerball Prize with Power Play
Thomas Woodard, an 81-year-old navy veteran is now $150,000 richer, after his Powerball ticket matched four main numbers plus the Powerball number. Thomas opted for the Power Play option, which multiplied his prize by three, increasing his $50,000 prize winnings to $150,000.
Thomas bought his winning ticket at the Shell gas station on Clinton Road in Jackson, Michigan. The morning after the drawing, he was amazed to discover that he was a Powerball prize winner: “I checked my ticket at Meijer on Sunday morning and the machine told me to see the retailer,” commented Thomas. “I gave the clerk my ticket and she scanned it and said ‘Tom, you won $50,000!’”. The Powerball numbers for Saturday September 30th were 8, 12, 25, 41, 64, Powerball 15 and the Power Play was 3X.
Having discovered his win, Thomas contacted his bank and when they checked the ticket, he “realized it was actually $150,000!”, since he had picked the Power Play option. You can learn more about Power Play payouts, by visiting the dedicated page.
The veteran claimed his Powerball prize from the lottery office in Lansing and jokingly said “I’m 81 years old, I can’t get too excited about winning, I don’t want to kick the bucket.”
Thomas now plans to pay off all his bills and put the remainder in savings. What would you spend the winnings on if you won the Powerball jackpot?
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is an estimated $112 million. Choose your numbers ahead of the drawing by visiting your local authorized retailer or choose your numbers online. Best of luck in Saturday’s drawing!
