Powerball Jackpot Now Worth $590 Million
After last night’s draw, the Powerball jackpot rolled over and reached $590 million. The grand prize hasn’t been won since April 19th.
With every draw and every rollover, the jackpot rapidly rises, and $546 million was up for grabs in the latest draw on Wednesday. Although the jackpot was not won, three players managed to match five numbers and got $1 million each. The winning tickets were bought in Florida, Ohio, and New York.
As ticket sales will continue to grow until the jackpot is won, the prize will take bigger leaps between draws.
Jackpot Now in Top 10 Biggest Prizes
If won this Saturday, the jackpot will share the tenth place in the top of largest prizes ever won. Over 10 years ago, in May 2013, Gloria MacKenzie from Florida won the $590 million jackpot and opted for a pre-tax cash payment of $370.8 million.
But if the jackpot rolls again a few more times, it wouldn’t be long before it reaches 10 figures. This happened only twice in the history of Powerball. First in January 2016 when three ticket holders won $1.586 billion and had to split it. The winners were from California, Florida and Tennessee, and they each took a pre-tax total of $528.8 million.
This was surpassed in November last year when a sole ticket holder from California won a jackpot worth $2.04 billion. The prize was claimed at the beginning of this year in February by Edwin Castro.
For this jackpot, the cash value is $304.8 million and if you’re the lucky winner, it’s your choice whether you want to take the money as a lump sum or an annuity.
Feeling lucky? Enter the Saturday draw and you might be the ticket holder who claims one of the top 10 biggest prizes ever won. Whether you choose to generate a random set of numbers or you have a winning strategy in place based on statistics, it’s worth giving it a try!
