Mississippi Lottery Adds Powerball Double Play Feature
On September 11, 2023 the Mississippi Lottery announced that the Double Play option will be added along the main Powerball draw. The first Double Play draw will take place on November 6 and players will be able to purchase tickets which include this feature from November 5.
In order to enter the Double Play option, participants must take an extra dollar out of their pockets. This gives them a chance to win a top cash prize of $10 million.
So how does Double Play work? Players will still have to choose five numbers between 1 and 69 and a Powerball number between 1 and 26. The same set of numbers will then be entered in both the main Powerball and Double Play drawings. The draw takes place approximately 30 minutes after the main Powerball draw.
Meanwhile, the Power Play option will stay the same. Participants may continue to add the Power Play option for the price of $1.00 per play. They can also choose to play both the Power Play and Double Play options. It is important to note that the Power Play option only increases the Powerball winnings for all prize levels (except the jackpot) but does not affect Double Play prizes.
Between September 11 and November 5, the multi-draw option will allow players to enter fewer draws instead of 24 draws as before. After November 5, the multi-draw option will return to the usual 24 draws, including the current drawing.
Double Play Growing in Popularity
The Mississippi Lottery is not the only one who’s adding the Double Play option for the Powerball game. The Iowa Lottery also announced last month that the Powerball add-on feature will be added to tickets. There is no exact date of its launch, however lottery officials are aiming for mid-September 2023.
It’s been over two years since the Double Play option was first introduced and players can add it to their tickets in 17 lottery jurisdictions so far: Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Washington.
But at the moment, the Powerball jackpot is still awaiting its winner. The jackpot has been rolling over since July 19, 2023 when a player from California won $1.08 billion, the third-largest grand prize in the history of the game.
The current jackpot is estimated at $550 million, with a cash value of $266 million. If you’re feeling lucky, make sure you enter the next draw for a chance to win!
