Powerball Jackpot Worth $672 Million Climbs in Top 10 Largest Prizes

Powerball Jackpot Worth $672 Million Climbs in Top 10 Largest Prizes

After rolling over 26 times, the Powerball jackpot hasn’t been won in the last drawing which took place on Monday September 18. The grand prize has now entered the top 10 largest Powerball prizes.

The winning numbers for the Monday, September 18 draw were 2, 21, 26, 40, 42, and the red Powerball number was 9. The Power Play multiplier was 3x. While no one won the jackpot nor the Power Play or Double Play first prizes, one lucky winner matched five main numbers and won $1 million.

The Monday draw brought prizes to 905,538 players, so make sure you check your tickets as you may be one of them.

The grand prize will continue to rise as ticket sales increase, with bigger leaps in-between drawings.

Powerball jackpots overall seem to become larger with time. For example, until after Monday’s draw, the tenth-largest Powerball jackpot, which was won on January 5 2022, was worth $632 million while its replacement in the top 10 is worth $40 million more.

Similarly, in the top three largest grand prizes ever won, we find ten-figure jackpots. The first jackpot that rolled over above $1 billion was won on January 13 2016. It was worth $1.59 billion and it was split by three winning tickets sold in California, Florida, and Tennessee.

Over six years later and for the first time ever for Powerball, Mega Millions, or any other lottery game, the jackpot went above $2 billion. Worth $2.04 billion, the grand prize was won by Edwin Castro from California. The third-largest jackpot worth $1.08 billion was won only recently in July 2023, and the current grand prize has been rolling over ever since.

After the winners claim their big win, they need to decide whether they choose the cash or annuity option. Interestingly, all winners in the top 10 largest jackpots ever won, except for the $1.08 billion winner who hasn’t come forward yet, took the cash option. So what are the differences between the two and why did they think the cash option is more advantageous? To find out, you can explore both options on our Cash vs Annuity page

If you won the jackpot, which option would you choose? The cash value for Wednesday’s jackpot is estimated at $320.5 million. Enter the next draw for a chance to win, then check your tickets to see if you won.
