Powerball Double Play Now Available in the District of Columbia

Powerball Double Play Now Available in the District of Columbia

The DC Lottery is now the 23rd lottery to offer the Double Play option when entering the Powerball game. Double Play offers nine prize categories and has a top prize of $10 million.

Ticket sales including the Double Play feature started on Sunday, July 14. Players in the District of Columbia now have the chance to match some winning numbers in a separate draw, held shortly after the main Powerball one.

Frank Suarez, the Executive Director at the DC Lottery, shared that: “We’re giving players across the District additional opportunities to win with Powerball, one of our most popular lottery games.”

“Players tell us they like to play for big jackpots and cash prizes, and Double Play is a new way for players to win millions,” he also added.

So how does Double Play work? When playing Powerball, you can add this feature to your ticket for an extra $1. You do not need to choose a different set of numbers as the same set you use for Powerball will be entered in the Double Play draw. On the same night, you can win a prize in both draws.

The first prize, worth $10 million, can be won by matching five numbers plus the Powerball. If it’s not won, it will not roll over and it will have the same amount in every draw. The smallest prize you could win would be $7 for matching the Powerball.

The new addition comes as, in the week starting July 15, the DC Lottery observes the annual Lottery Week, celebrated in North America for the past six years. This celebration aims to  highlight the ways in which the DC Lottery supports important social causes. More than $2.3 billion has been transferred to the District’s General Fund since the lottery’s launch in 1982, and approximately $137.3 million was raised for local nonprofits.

Frank Suarez concluded: “With over 40 years in the game, the DC Lottery understands that every play counts. There’s much to celebrate in D.C. during Lottery Week and beyond. We invite players to join us on the journey to 40 more.”
