Powerball Jackpot of $699 Million Won in California

Powerball Jackpot of $699 Million Won in California

After the longest run of rollovers in Powerball history, the jackpot was finally won in the latest drawing on Monday October 4th. The prize, worth a staggering $699 million, went to a player from California.

Winning Powerball Numbers

The all-important numbers for the momentous draw were 12, 22, 54, 66 and 69, with a Powerball of 15. You can find out more information, including payout breakdowns for each state and the Double Play result, on the Powerball Numbers page.

The jackpot had been building since it was last won on June 5th, by the Love You More Trust from Florida. This set a new record for the most consecutive drawings without a winner, but more tickets have been sold as the top prize has climbed higher and now all the money is on its way to California. It also marks the first time that the jackpot has been won on a Monday.

The winning ticket was sold at the Albertsons store at 730 Quintana Road in Morro Bay. It remains to be seen whether the winner comes forward quickly or bides their time and takes some financial advice first. They may even be in the dark about the big win unless they checked their tickets straight after the drawing.

The winner will get to choose between taking the jackpot as an annuity over 29 years, or going for the cash option of $495 million. The vast majority of recent winners have opted for the lump sum, but there are various factors to consider in the cash vs annuity decision.

Top Powerball Winners

The latest payout slots in at No.5 in the table of the biggest wins of all time. The top five have all come since major changes were made to the game in October 2015, which saw the matrix updated to a 5/69 and 1/26 game. Players had previously had to pick their five main numbers from 1 to 59, and their Powerball number from 1 to 36.

The changes were designed to create larger jackpots, and just a few months after they were made the top prize hit a record $1.58 billion in January 2016 before it was split three ways. The winners were John and Lisa Robinson from Munford in Tennessee, David Kaltschmidt and Maureen Smith from Melbourne Beach in Florida, and Marvin and Mae Acosta from Chino Hills in California.

More recently, The Power Pack from Maryland grabbed the biggest prize of 2021 when they banked a jackpot worth $731 million in January. In August, Powerball underwent further changes, with the launch of a new Monday drawing and the introduction of Double Play in some states.

Keep tuned to Powerball.net for more news about the latest winner as it is revealed, and enjoy Powerball drawings every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. It could be that the jackpot is won twice in a row, or maybe it will begin another long roll towards a record-breaking payout.
