Powerball Jackpot Won in Michigan

The numbers for September 21st were 1, 9, 22, 36 and 68, plus the Powerball of 22. There were more than 460,000 payouts across all the different prize categories, with one ticket picking up the jackpot. Find more information about the drawing on the Powerball Numbers page.

The Michigan Lottery quickly announced that the all-important entry had been bought at the Barrels & Barrels Party Store in Suttons Bay in the north of the state.

It is the fourth time that a player from Michigan has won a Powerbal jackpot, and the first since Julie Leach of Three Rivers banked $310 million in 2015. Read more about some of the biggest prizes to have ever been won in the Great Lake State.

The latest winner has one year to come forward and claim their prize. They will be able to choose between taking the full jackpot amount as an annuity over 30 years, or a one-time lump sum payment of $55 million. They will not be able to stay anonymous as Michigan law dictates that winner information is public knowledge.

Winning Streak in 2019

The jackpot has now been won six times in 2019, including five winners since the start of June. The biggest payout of the year came back in March, when Manuel Franco from Wisconsin landed an enormous $768 million.

More recently, a player from Tennessee won $198 million on July 13th, while the last two jackpots have both gone to ticket holders from New York. It is the first time that four consecutive jackpots worth less than $200 million have been won since changes were made to Powerball in October 2015.

Those changes in 2015 saw the matrix change to its current format of picking five main numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball of 1 to 26. This has created more huge jackpots, including the record $1.58 billion in January 2016.

As the jackpot resets now to $40 million, the winning run from the last couple of months could continue and lead to another big payout in the next few weeks, or it could rise quickly into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
